SEPTEMBER ALREADY??

Where has the summer gone? Need to catch up here......
In early July many members displayed quilts at the Great Catskill Mountain Quilt Show. The theme for the show this year was Dutch Quilting. Dutch master quilter Rita Berghuis brought an assortment of traditional and contemporary quilts from her homeland and gave lectures about the evolution of modern Dutch quilting techniques and themes . This was her first visit to America and she loved the Catskills !

The Hall of Fame picnic was held in July and it was a beautiful day in the mountains. Sharing quilts, stories and friendships. Jim and Bob from Woodstock Quilt Supply gave a lecture on quilting and paper piecing.

Karen R made a display for her Happy Comfort Dolls and gave out many patterns for her dolls. So far, dolls have been sent to China, Africa and India.

Pat shows off her beautiful bag using the block she made at a workshop given by a Dutch quilter. What a great way not to have a UFO!

As always the picnic is great fun with great food!

So much going on..................

June finds the Patchworkers busy as always pursuing individual interests as well as group interests.
Angee spent 4 days in Columbus Ohio , volunteering at the annual National Quilting Associations quilt show judging. She is a candidate in the NQA's Certified Judging program . While in Columbus, Angee met and spent a day with a gal she has been "chatting" with on line for the past 5 years. "I talked her into learning to quilt via the internet. Lou brought her family quilts that were made by grandmothers and great grandmothers and we had a wonderful show and tell. It was like we always knew each other and we are making plans for next year," says Angee.

Lou and her husband Matt are holding a very unusual quilt made with scraps from a pajama factory in Chicago .Circa early 1920s.

Marianne competed in the Empire State Senior Olympics in June 2006. She won 5 Gold medals and 2 Silver. Silver in the 5K run, and the 100 m dash. Gold medals in the 200 m, 400 m, Discus, Shot put and Javelin. The games were held in Cortland, NY. WAY TO GO MARIANNE!!

At the latest meeting we had Elly Wininger interviewing some of the Patchworkers for a radio quilting program she is putting together for Catskill Community Radio. It was a lot of fun and we can't wait to hear the program. Elly has been interviewing many quilters that live in the Catskill Mountain region. Here are Pat and Betty being interviewed.

The Patchworkers have spent many meetings working on a special project. Mickey from Windham Fabrics has done so much for the group that we are making him and his family a tablerunner and six placemats using fabrics that his wife designed. The line is Farmhouse and the colors and patterns are just wonderful.
And here we find Clara diligently working on the placemats.

There is more but I will save that for next time.

HAPPY QUILTING!

A Busy May for the Patchworkers

May finds the Patchworkers as busy as ever.
Some members went to the Somers Quilt Show others took a mystery workshop at Woodstock Quilt Supply.
Karen R. has designed a doll to be given to underprivileged children. They are called the Happy Comfort Dolls and they are just adorable. Her enthusiasm is catchy and it has the Patchworkers making dolls at meetings and at home. She has sent dolls to an orphanage in China and is now looking to send dolls to Africa. Karen will have a Blog up soon telling about her dolls and how you may help. The Blog link will be posted here so please come back.
Rose O. gave a workshop to six members on making a 3-D style sunflower. Only one picture is available now but more will follow. Rose watched this being made on Simply Quilts, found the pattern on line at Simply Quilts and the results are fantastic.
The quilts that are being shown at weekly meetings are beautiful, which means this years show in August is going to be wonderful. But heck......all our shows are great!
We would like to welcome a new member to the Patchworkers. Gail P. from Windham. She loves doing tradition quilts and her show and tells have us in awe of her work.

Happy Quilting!

Six Patchworkers Visit Lancaster

Rose, Pat, Clara, Mary, Laura and Angee spent 3 days in Lancaster doing what quilters do best...admiring beautiful quilts and shopping for fabric! And shop they did! The first stop on their way to Lancaster was Sauders, a wonderful fabric shop run by Mennonites in Denver, PA. Two hours there and arms full of goodies they preceded on to Lancaster. Once checked into their motel, they gathered in one room and had show and tell of their purchases. Dinner was at a rowdy place called Texas Roadhouse.
Thursday found them all day at the Quilters Heritage Quilt Show . This was Laura's first "big" show and she was in awe of all the beautiful quilts and surroundings. She purchased some beautiful batik panels and the fever caught her!
Friday it was off to Intercourse, PA to visit 3 more quilt shops. The Quilt and Fabric Shack, The Country Store and Zooks. By this time quilters from around the world are in full force and all the shops are packed. I call it the Quilters Shuffle, to get around the people and aisles of fabrics. When your arms are full of bolts of fabric it can be quite challenging!
Saturday found them heading home with all their great finds and fun memories.

First two pictures are of us meeting up to have lunch. The next two pictures are of an Amish boy riding his wagon down the road between farms. He was moving at a good clip.

It's sugaring time.....

We had the pleasure today to see maple syrup being made. What a treat!
And Spring was in full swing today. It was high 50's , sunny and just beautiful!
Matina made a corn chowder soup that was so delicious and Karen had a raspberry pie and brownies from Arthurs Bakery.....Yummy
Pat brought out some blocks that she won at Wiltwyck and we had fun arranging them with her.
Clara is back from Virginia and showed us a delightful baby quilt she made and Marianne showed her latest wool quilt creation.

Spring in the Catskills

Spring has arrived though she is making a timid appearance on the mountain top. Spring finds Peggy traveling in Austria. Can't wait to hear about all her adventures when she returns. Doris has donated a quilt to the Patchworkers and this quilt top will be put on the frame to be tied as soon as the raffle quilt is complete.
Hope everyone is busy making quilts to hang proudly at this years show! Some members are making items for the silent auction using the fabric donated to us by Cranston Fabrics .Carolyn make a wonderful tote bag and Clara an adorable doll quilt and pillow. The fabric line is the collection by Artist, Parvaneh Holloway. It features her namesake, the butterfly. The butterflies adorn images of perfume bottles, enameled pens and enameled egg sculptures. Very pretty fabrics.
Not mentioned before are the recipients of the raffle quilt proceeds. They are the D.R. Ervants Library of Athens and the Mountaintop Animal Friends.

Happy Spring Everyone!

Our 2006 Raffle Quilt

The following pictures are of our 2006 raffle quilt. This quilt will be raffled off at our annual quilt fair in August. Shown here are members putting the quilt on the frame . We have a great time when we meet each week to quilt. We start at 10:00 am , stop for lunch and then it's back to quilting. Each week a member brings the soup and bread for lunch and another member brings dessert. Can't beat that!

Welcome

March finds the Patchworkers very busy at the quilt frame quilting the 2006 raffle quilt. This years raffle quilt is a beautiful Dresden plate done in reproduction 30's feedsacks.
Since January, members have been collecting canned goods for the local food pantry. Today they were delivered to the Presbyterian Church in Jewett.
Please, come back often. We are always up to something.
